YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — Microsoft has committed $3 billion to expanding its AI and cloud computing capabilities in India. The announcement, made by CEO Satya Nadella on Jan. 8 during the Microsoft AI Tour in Bengaluru, highlights the company’s plans to establish new data centers and scale its AI training programs.
The investment includes a partnership with INDIAai, the Indian government’s AI initiative, to train 500,000 individuals in AI by 2026. By 2030, Microsoft aims to provide 10 million people in India with cloud and AI skills. Nadella called this “the single largest” expansion undertaken by Microsoft in India.
AI Training for Millions Across Sectors
The AI training will target diverse groups, including students, educators, developers, government officials, and women entrepreneurs. According to reports from the Economic Times, these programs aim to address digital skill gaps and empower individuals across urban and rural areas.

The new initiative will build on this effort by introducing “AI catalysts” in smaller cities to support local communities and promote AI adoption.

Expanding Microsoft Azure in India
A significant portion of the $3 billion investment will enhance Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing platform in India. Nadella, after meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressed confidence in India’s ability to foster a robust AI ecosystem.
Microsoft plans to integrate Azure with existing AI infrastructure to address the growing demand for cloud services. These upgrades aim to improve scalability and efficiency, benefiting businesses of all sizes.
Collaborations with Key Industries in India
Microsoft has formed partnerships with leading Indian organizations, including RailTel, Apollo Hospitals, Bajaj Finserv, Mahindra Group, and upGrad. These collaborations aim to deliver AI-driven solutions and cloud capabilities to optimize operations and enhance customer experiences.
Through these partnerships, Microsoft will provide advanced tools and resources to improve operational efficiency and drive digital transformation.

Notably, Microsoft is extending its Founders Hub program to support 1,000 AI startups in India. This initiative offers startups access to Azure credits, business resources, and mentorship to help scale their operations.
