Changpeng Zhao, aka CZ, has just posted the pic of a dog named Broccoli and already there’s a $BROCCOLI token going viral on the BNB Chain. $BROCCOLI coin could be the next 100x meme coin.
There’s a website for the Broccoli official token: broccolitoken.io too.
Since launching minutes ago, the $BROCCOLI token has rocketed to $0.0100397 and a market capitalization of $2.050 million.
Interested parties can get the contract address for the new meme coin on DexTools and buy using your favorite BNB-compliant wallet, such as Best Wallet.
So how did we get here? It all started with the TST token created for a Binance tutorial – never intended for trading it hit a market capitalization of $500 million before crashing.
Despite CZ letting the world know that the coin had nothing to do with him, it was speculators in China that started the buying frenzy, bidding up the price.
The origin story of a CZ dog meme coin – From TST to $BROCCOLI
On 9 February CZ posted a long message on X again distancing himself from the TST coin (which had by now been listed on Binance). This time he expounded serious thoughts about where we as an industry are at with meme coins, and the speculation they attract.
Here is some of what he said, from point 6.1 onwards:
6.1 During the last four years, a powerful regulatory agency sued almost anyone with any utility token, falsely claiming they are securities. So, people started to launch memes. 6.2 There are groups of traders known as speculators. Things with clear tangible value are harder to speculate on. They stay around the clear value. This is indeed a challenge for RWA. For example, a building whose value doesn’t fluctuate much may not have a lot of trading activity. Then, it won’t have much liquidity, and the order book becomes thin, then even less trading activity, a vicious cycle. 6.3 Memes are fun, etc. It’s a cultural thing. I am not an expert in this area. There are plenty of die-hard defenders of memes. Don’t go against the community. 7. Lastly, it’s clear there are lots of money ready to invest in the market. Lots of opportunities. You need to build things people want.Happy building and happy memeing! And manage your risks
CZ: “How does this work? I share my dog’s name and picture, and then people create memcoins?”
Then, days later, CZ posted this question in reply to Crypto Kemal on X:
Honest newbie question. How does this work? I share my dog’s name and picture, and then people create memcoins? How do you know which one is “official”? or does that even matter?
(I see many people asking for a name and a picture.)
He got his answers:
…and then followed it up two hours ago, at the time of writing, with a message saying he would be posting the picture of the dog at 8pm ish Dubai time (4pm GMT).
He duly followed up on that with the post, which is embedded at the top of this article – a CZ coin is born.
CZ has just pumped what could be the next big thing in meme coins – $BROCCOLI token
It all comes as something of a turnaround for CZ, who has previously expressed his exasperation with meme coins, which he suggested were a distraction from building dApps with use cases that can gain mass adoption.
Back in November 2024 CZ bemoaned the meme coin craze, complaining that it was “getting a little weird now”.
Well, here we are today as things come full circle for CZ – like it or not he has just become one of the biggest pumpers of what could be looking increasingly like the next big meme coin sensation.
CZ is basically now of the view that meme coins show the appetite for all things crypto. In his view, because meme coins are vacuous, they are perfect for speculation, as opposed to coins with fundamental use cases that may be more readily appraised from a value point of view.
So back with the $BROCCOLI token meme coin – it is pumping because it has caught the attention of speculators who have been waiting to see when the CZ dog pic would drop.
CZ has been doing a very good job in building FOMO for this coin – and whoever is behind this latest meme coin explosion has done an excellent job in being the first to bark, so to speak.
